TextBox is designed without accounts, analytics, advertising or a TextBox cloud. TextBox does not receive, store or analyse the content of your scratchpad.
The TextBox privacy promise
TextBox does not create an account, identify you, track how you use the app, build a profile, sell data or show advertising. The app contains no analytics, telemetry or third-party tracking SDK.
Your scratchpad content is never transmitted to, collected by or stored on a server operated by TextBox. There is no TextBox database and no cloud sync.
What stays locally on your Mac
To keep your scratchpad ready when you reopen the app, TextBox saves the text locally inside its macOS app preferences. The pin state, panel height and whether the welcome screen has been completed are also stored locally.
This information remains under your control on your Mac. Using “Clear Text” replaces the locally saved scratchpad content with an empty value. TextBox does not copy this information to its servers.
Apple Writing Tools
Proofread and Rewrite use the Writing Tools built into macOS. TextBox invokes the system feature and does not send the text to a TextBox server. TextBox has no access to Apple’s processing infrastructure.
Apple states that many Apple Intelligence requests are processed on the device. More complex requests may use Apple Private Cloud Compute; Apple states that the relevant data is used only to fulfil the request and is not stored or made accessible to Apple. That processing is controlled by macOS and is subject to Apple’s Apple Intelligence privacy information.
Software update checks
TextBox uses Sparkle to check the official TextBox update feed. The update request does not contain your scratchpad text, clipboard content or a TextBox account identifier.
Like any internet request, the server delivering the update feed may technically receive an IP address, request time, app version and standard connection information. These requests are used only to deliver updates and are not used to profile app usage.
This website
The TextBox website has no account system, contact form, analytics, advertising tracker or marketing cookies. Its fonts and visual assets are served from the same website instead of third-party font services.
The hosting infrastructure may process ordinary technical access information such as an IP address, request time, requested file, browser and operating system to deliver the page, downloads and protect the server. TextBox does not combine this technical information with app content or use it to track visitors.
